Our First Cold Water Bodysurfing Trip to Canada Was Amazing

Where’s the wildest place you’ve been cold water bodysurfing?

For me, it was in the frigid waters off the coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. My dear friend and talented in-water videographer, Hannah Walsh, joined me for a cold water bodysurfing session and captured some beautiful moments (see video below) before brain freeze took over.

Here’s what Hannah had to say about the experience:

Three years ago, I was in the water daily with my pals Adrianne and Spencer. After many beautiful life changes and time apart, we came together for a special trip to Vancouver Island, Canada. It was a weekend I will never forget.

Bodysurfing is truly the purest form of wave sliding. It feels like something out of this world in the chilly waters of the pacific northwest.

Our days revolved around sipping warm coffee in the crisp morning air, dropping our phones for board games, and riding the glassy beach break waves of Tofino. Perhaps the best part was warming up in the sauna afterward and reliving our shared stories from the sea.

I made this little soundscape film to encapsulate the memories of this trip:

My dear friend Hannah Walsh beautifully documents what it’s like to bodysurf in the frigid waters of Canada. Our 4.3mm Hyperflex wetsuits kept us pretty warm, but we were grateful to have a wood-burning sauna to return home to!
